Where the Wild Things Are...

We finally got out this morning to visit Tanganyika, the new wildlife park outside of town. Actually, the park itself is not new. It has been around since 1985, where it was utilized as an animal breeding and preservation facility. Just last year, they opened to the public. We really enjoyed ourselves.

It's much smaller than the zoo, but everything is up close, and there is a lot of interaction with the animals. There is a Lorikeet Sanctuary, where the birds can fly around you, and at times, they will land right on you. They were pretty calm today, though. They have places where you can feed bunnies, tortoises, and lemurs, too. There is a giant playground, shaded picnic tables, as well as many other exhibits to explore. All the girls had a great time.

My best attempt at capturing these three wild things:

They were smooching:

I wish I could have gotten a better shot of the kangaroo. I had Little A in my arms, so it was difficult. It was really neat to see the joey squirm around in her pouch. We learned lots of neat facts about kangaroos today. Did you know that a kangaroo can have an embryo, a joey in her pouch, and a nursing baby on the ground all at once? Hello, supermom!

Getting these shots was kind of a comedy of errors:

Sassy and LuLu petting in the bunnies:

The girls thought the tortoises were pretty cool. I don't know if it was the color of Sassy's shoes or what, but every tortoise tried to devour them:

More tortoise fun:

The ginormous three-story playground that almost sent me into a nervous breakdown for fear of hospital trips, stitches, and broken bones:

Sassy being completely fearless and climbing up in spite of my begging her not to:

Enjoying the long slide down:

LMB looking pretty:

LuLu feeding the lemur the $1 craisin. Yes, it cost $1 to feed the lemurs, and yes, each child was given one craisin. I thought that was pretty funny:
