Our New Dilemma...

Look at what Little A has been up to...

Yeah, not good.

Sassy did this once.

I immediately pulled the car over, and started gushing about how dangerous this was and that we must never ever do it. Ever.

She's never done it since.

Little A, now she is a different story. I've tried everything. Stopping the car (obviously... needs to be fixed immediately). Reasoning. Yelling. Time out.

And, to no avail.

HELP! What's a Mama to do?

The twins do that all the time. Drives me nuts. They are so skinny and lanky so its kind of easy for them.....good luck with that...hopefully its her last time doing it.

Can you pull the buckle higher? Like maybe shoulder level? If you do that and tighten the straps down then she should have a much harder time getting her arms out. Obviously you want her to be comfy but sometimes comfy and safe do not go hand in hand.

Oh and once you move the buckle up, wrap some electrical tape around the portion of the strap that comes out of the bottom so the buckle does not move down once you have it placed high enough. Make sure the end of the tape is towards her body so she does not try to pick at it. I've heard of people using safety pin and the like to secure the straps but I feel that the structural intergrity of the belt is compromised once you pierce the belt.

Well I am clearly no help. It took me MINUTES to figure out what was wrong in the picture!!!! Seriously! I was like "what, does Heather not want her to put her finger in her mouth???"

God help my kids....=)

I agree about moving the buckle up and tightening it. If it's tight enough she shouldn't be able to take her arms out without really struggling. J did this a few times too so I had to start tightening his seat to the point he could barely move in it. He finally quit trying.

Yeah, she can move the buckle down to get her arms out. I always place it in the correct positioning. Maybe I do need to tighten the straps further. I am constantly tightening them and Tyler is constantly making them looser again. Grr..

Thanks for the tips!

Knock on wood but my boys have never done this...what a stinker little A is!

I agree pulling the straps tighter should help. I keep the boys at the recommend "two finger widths" tightness and they don't complain or whine. (Daddy says it seems tight but he knows better than to touch it).

We also talk about "seatbelts to be safe" and how Dora always wears her seatbelt and how we don't mess with them. Maybe you can use Dora as a reminder too? GL hon!

Uh-oh...not sure what else you could possibly do other than utilizing some duct tape, bungee cord, twine and glue! :)

Brandon is in a proper booster seat now and I have to do the seat belt for him to make sure it is right. The other day I started the car and rolled it about twenty feet before I realized I forgot to strap him in. I FREAKED OUT AND WAS LIKE YOU NEVER LET MOMMY DRIVE OFF WITHOUT DOING YOUR SEAT BELT DO YOU YEAR ME NEVER NEVER EVER EVER. Of course when I was a child we did not even sit in car seats or wear seat belts, but I would DIE A THOUSAND DEATHS before I ever intentionally moved the car without one of the children tied down.

I am so observant that for a second there I thought you were referring to her sticking her finger in her mouth....lol then I noticed the belt.

Em does this still ALL of the time. It drives me NUTS!! She's been doing it for a long time. When she does it we just tell her the policeman will come take her because she is not safe. Then we act like we see a policeman and she RUSHES to get that seat belt back on correctly. It has been a struggle for us. No matter how tight etc you make it she can get out of anything! I feel your pain!
