Balanced.

One of our goals this year in the SPH is working towards achieving better balance. Balance in a multitude of areas. One of these areas is eating. I've discussed eating struggles many times before. Things are getting better, but I still want to strive towards more balanced meals... ones that the girls will eat! It will definitely be a journey for us, and I am more than happy to share our progress with you all.

One of the first things I did this year was utilize the USDA food pyramid guide designed for preschoolers, which can be found here.

This is what Sassy's pyramid looks like:

And Tink's:

Did anything surprise you? For me, looking at this made me realize that I really need to take a step back on encouraging the girls to eat more. Yes, we need for veggies. Yes, we need more fruits. But overall consumption- the requirements are not much for the itty bittys.

I think that's a great place to start.

Also, a couple of you asked about meal ideas for picky eaters when I asked what you'd like to hear more about. This is something I'd love to work on sharing more of! Exactly the reason I will be starting a new blog series:

Sweet Pea Approved posts will include recipes, tips, and tricks that are tried and true here in the SPH. I'm so excited! Stay tuned...

Oh, and thanks to Danielle @ TDG for the awesome new blog button!

So, with all of this in mind, here's another chance to give me some feedback on exactly what you would like to to discuss as far as this journey goes. I'm willing to delve into just about anything, so if you want to hear about it, let me know. ♥

The suggested meat or protein amounts really surprised me-they're pretty low. Bubs seems to be on a bit of a meat strike so I'm often worried about his protein consumption. They're both very good fruit and veggie eaters but 3 cups (1.5 cups of each for Sassy) sounds like a lot!
