The Long, Drawn-Out Goodbye...

I'm pretty certain it was entirely way more drawn out here on the blog than in real life.

Just sayin'...

After our lovely day at Botanica on Thursday, we kicked things into high gear and spent most of Friday getting the house in order and Tyler ready to leave the following morning.

My Mom and I may or may not have allowed Tyler a break from the chaos by taking the girls up to Carter's to do a little back-to-school shopping.

The real excitement came Friday night. We "surprised" Ty with a family dinner at one of our all-time favorite places... Luciano's. I could just go on and on about how amazing Luciano's is. If you live in the ICT metro and haven't tried it, you are missing out. Of course, the price tag forces it to be a very-special-occasions-only establishment for us, but well worth it for the quality and service. We ♥ Luciano's!

The girls found great joy in having an occasion for which to dress up. I took a few last Daddy-Daughter pics out front before we left...

I am so missing these three goobers together in action!

Little Miss Tink, doing what she does best.

I kid, I kid. As an aside, though... have nay of you battled thumb/finger sucking? As a parent educator, I know that sucking is a natural process and one that many professionals consider normal until much older than the typical person would think. Our pediatric dentist has been relatively laissez faire on the whole issue. I suspect his tune will begin to change a bit as she will be three at her next visit. Anyway, just taking a little informal poll on methods of discouragement in the finger-sucking department. Thanks!

Tink's face just cracks.me.up in this picture!

Now, this is better...

Dinner was phenomenal and we really enjoyed our time together!

Daddy gave the girls one last bath (by his hands... HA!) for a while, red one final story, and tucked them in and said his goodbyes...

It was really a huge blessing that he left so early and they just woke up to him having already gone rather than see him off in person. I think it worked out best this way.

We've been adjusting quite nicely. Some days are harder than others. We are trying to keep a really positive perspective on the whole thing.

Chins up here in the SPH!

What a sweet goodbye, good food and good company! LOVE that picture of Tink's face, with Sassy...too cute. Sorry, I'm no help in the finger sucking department as neither of my kids took that route, however, I can tell you that my step-sister sucked the exact 2 fingers until she was OLD (I'm talking in her teens). The good news was, she only did it when she went to bed AND her teeth were/are perfectly normal. I remember her mom tried all sorts of things to deter her but none of them worked. Now that I think of it, maybe I shouldn't have told you about all that....? Anyway, I wouldn't give it a second thought, she's young and will give it up sooner or later. :)

Thinking of your family as well!! I of course don't have kids, but am just wondering if painting her nails if she's still doing it when she gets older would be an ok method to try? She might be less likely to want to put them in her mouth and/or see it as a priviledge for those who keep their fingers out of their mouth? Take my ideas with a grain of salt of course :)
